Description: The Seán Ó Faoláin International Short Story Competition invites writers worldwide to submit original, unpublished short stories in English, up to 3,000 words. Open to all nationalities and styles, the competition offers a €2,000 first prize, with additional awards for runners-up. Winning and shortlisted stories are published in the literary journal Southword, and the first-place winner is invited to read at the Cork International Short Story Festival with accommodations provided.

Additional Info:The 2025 competition is judged by Laura Jean McKay, an award-winning author and lecturer. First prize includes €2,000, publication in Southword, and a featured reading at the Cork International Short Story Festival with a four-night hotel stay and full board. Second prize is €500; four runners-up receive €400 each, all with publication in Southword.
