Description: The Iowa Review Awards is an annual writing contest recognizing excellence in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Open to writers worldwide, the competition offers winners a $1,500 prize and publication in the December issue of The Iowa Review. Submissions must be previously unpublished and are judged anonymously by esteemed writers in each genre.


Dates: Submissions accepted from January 1 to January 31 annually


Grade Levels: Open to all; high school students are eligible


Skill Level: Advanced


Location Requirements: Worldwide

Additional Info: Submissions are made through Submittable. Prose entries may be up to 25 double-spaced pages; poetry entries may include up to 10 pages, with one poem per page. Simultaneous submissions are permitted, provided the Iowa Review is notified promptly if the work is accepted elsewhere.
