Hudson Prize – Black Lawrence Press

Description: The Hudson Prize is an annual competition recognizing outstanding unpublished collections of poetry or prose. Open to new, emerging, and established writers, the winner receives a $1,000 cash award, publication by Black Lawrence Press, and ten copies of the published book. Manuscripts are judged anonymously by a panel of editors and former Hudson Prize winners.

Dates: Submissions are accepted from January 1 to March 31 annually

Grade Levels: Open to all; high school students are eligible

Additional Info: Manuscripts should be 45–95 pages for poetry or 120–280 pages for prose, not including front and back matter. Previously published individual pieces are acceptable if noted in an acknowledgments page. Simultaneous submissions are permitted, but authors must notify the press if the manuscript is accepted elsewhere.
