World Historian Student Essay Competition

Description: The World Historian Student Essay Competition, organized by the World History Association (WHA), invites K–12 students worldwide to submit essays exploring their personal connections to world history. Participants are encouraged to reflect on family stories, cultural backgrounds, or regional histories, and the competition emphasizes critical thinking and the ability to relate individual experiences to broader historical contexts.

Dates: Submissions must be emailed or postmarked by May 1.

Grade Levels: Grades K–12

Skill Level: Beginner to Advanced

Additional Info: Winners receive a $500 prize and a one-year membership in the WHA. Essays should be approximately 1,000 words, double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman font, with 1-inch margins. Submissions must be in Microsoft Word format, with identifying information provided on a separate page.
