Poetry Out Loud

Description: Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. The program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. Participants advance through school, regional, and state competitions, culminating in the National Finals.

Dates: National Finals: May 6–7, 2025

Grade Levels: Grades 9–12

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Location Requirements: USA

Additional Info: The National Finals are held at the Lisner Auditorium at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and are free and open to the public. The competition offers a total of $50,000 in awards and school or organizational stipends, including a $20,000 prize for the National Champion.
