Description: The Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference is a prestigious, all-expenses-paid, five-day summer program held in Washington, D.C., for high school juniors who exhibit qualities of a "free spirit" and have an interest in journalism. Selected students engage in hands-on learning experiences, including panels with leading journalists, newsroom tours, and discussions on media ethics and the First Amendment.

Dates: June 22–27, 2025

Grade Levels: 11 (rising seniors)

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Location Requirements: U.S. citizens or legal residents; one student selected from each state and the District of Columbia

Additional Info: Each participant receives a $1,000 college scholarship and becomes part of an extensive alumni network of over 1,500 individuals who have gone on to careers in journalism, media, and beyond.
